Caribbean

The Caribbean is often treated as a single destination, but it is better understood and visited as a region of sharply different islands linked more by geography than by culture. Former British, French, Dutch, and Spanish colonies coexist within a relatively small area, each with its own language habits, political structure, and daily rhythm. Some islands developed around large-scale resort tourism, while others remain defined by local towns, fishing communities, and small capitals that still set the tone of everyday life. What unites the Caribbean for travellers is obviously the sea, but what distinguishes each island is how much of itself it chose to preserve once tourism arrived.
