Reverse harem books have become madly popular in the last few years. But why? Well, imagine Chris Hemsworth, Jason Mamoa, Henry Cavill, and Ian Somerhalder together in all their sexy glory. And imagine them all deeply, desperately in love with one girl. One special, passionate girl they would do anything for – even share her.
But wait.
What are Reverse Harem Books exactly?
A reverse harem book is, as the name suggests, centered around a female protagonist that manages to maintain an intense romantic relationship with three, four, five, or even six men who are equally crazy about her. As these suitors are not too crazily jealous of each other, the girl never chooses – she doesn’t have to – and has her happily ever after with all of them.
Reverse harems books can extend over nearly every genre, spanning from young adult and high school romance to more intense and dark fantasies. Falling under the poly romance umbrella, the best romance harem books are often deep-rooted in the erotic genre, giving you plenty of sexual fantasy material. If you’re looking for your next romance read, below are the 10 best reverse harem books out there.
1. Four Psychos (The Dark Side #1) by Kristy Cunning
Keyla is a spirit who has been watching over four guys for half a decade. She can’t remember anything about her past life, except that since she first saw these guys, she has been able to stay ‘awake’ in her world for longer.
The guys in question – Ezekiel, Kai, Gage, and Jude – are supernatural beings, and when they suddenly find out that they’ve actually had a stalker this entire time, well, they’re not pleased, to say the least. But Keyla is feisty and determined to become permanently visible and physical to the world, and her boys. Her powers continue to grow and her relationship with these guys is… rocky. It’s just a rollercoaster from there.
This book is dark, yet extremely funny, with a slow-burn romance. Pretty much everything we love in reverse harem books.
2. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maa
Oleander Fallows lives in a world where some lucky people get Bonds, basically fated mates.
She has five of them. But ever since she was 14, when a terrible accident left her orphaned, ‘Oli’ has been on the run, leaving her bonded men behind. We quickly learn that the tragic experience triggered Oli’s powers, which she wants to keep hidden at all costs for reasons we aren’t aware of.
Now 19, she’s been captured and was forced to return to her bonded community, living among her bonded men – all still sore about the fact that she’s made them look like fools by refusing them.
They are ruthless, unforgiving and all have very different but intense feelings towards her. The love-hate sexual tension is off the charts on all levels. Each of her bonds has a unique personality and power, and as always Bree does a great job of making every character feel real.
As one of the best reverse harem books of 2021, I recommend adding it to your TBR list asap.
3. Trickery (Curse of the Gods, #1) by Jaymin Eve
Willa is a Dweller — aka human – who accidentally ends up working as a servant in a school for Sols, people who are destined to become gods.
Her life takes another expected turn when she meets the five Abcurse brothers, who are known for their power and arrogance. Willa is very clumsy and doesn’t know any etiquette about behaving around them – yet in no time she has the guys wrapped around her finger.
This story is really intriguing, mostly because it’s so unexpected. Willa’s not a chosen one, there’s no mysterious past, but her thought process and overall originality make her one of the best female leads ever. I highly recommend this book if you need to be entertained and want some silly fun. There are fights, mysteries, and meaningful themes, but the best part is definitely the humor.
Applause to our author Jaymin Eve, for this very well-written and funny-as-heck reverse harem book.
4. Find Me (WITSEC #1) by Ashley N. Rostek
18-year-old Shiloh has lost nearly all of her family in a traumatic event that still haunts her.
With her stalker still on the loose, she is placed into Witness Protection, and she’s about to enroll in a new high school all by herself. Shiloh learns to cope with her new reality – she’s strong, and she knows how to take care of herself and be on her own.
That is until she meets her new neighbors, the four brothers. Hot as sin, sometimes moody, sometimes broody, Colt, Creed, Knox, and Keelan become her rock. They see her and begin to fight for her. They have this unexplainable bond with one another and become the allies she needs.
This book definitely tiptoes the line between dark and light and will have you turning the pages as fast as you can.
5. Trying to Live With the Dead (The Veil Diaries #1) by B.L. Brunnemer
Ever since Alexis was a young girl, she has been able to speak with ghosts, just like every female in her family.
In the aftermath of a tragic incident, Alexis is unfortunately forced to pack her stuff and move in with her uncle. Lexie will do everything she can to keep her secret in high school, and to stay safe as well. Accustomed to people abandoning her after learning of her skills, she never expected five guys to adopt her into their group.
When one particular ghost starts taking her rage out on Lexie, she quickly realizes something is seriously wrong. With time not on her side, Lexie must quickly put the pieces together and figure out what is going on, before she is lost to the void or loses her precious friends in the process.
As one of the best reverse harem books depicting a slow-burn, friends-to-lovers romance, Trying To Live With The Dead is perfect for anyone looking for a compelling storyline with a good paranormal twist.
6. The Vixen’s Lead (Kit Davenport, #1) by Tate James
Kit Davenport is an apparently normal high school senior by day. By night, she is the Fox, an internationally wanted thief whose heists have been successful for years.
That is until one day her secret identity is uncovered by some elite secret agents. River, Cole, Caleb, Austin, and Wesley take her into their custody to know more about her story, but their investigation will soon turn into a suspenseful, dangerous adventure.
This is a slow burn, as opposed to what can be called “Insta-love”, where it all just goes up quickly and isn’t very thrilling in the long run. Drawn-out tension makes the heist plot even thicker and more enjoyable.
If you’re a fan of romance books about con artists and thieves and enjoyed Six of Crows, you’re going to want to read this.
7. Hate (Madison Kate, #1) by Tate James
Madison Kate ‘MK’ was framed for a crime that she didn’t commit and she is now determined to get revenge. Upon returning from exile in Cambodia, she discovers that the people she believes are responsible for what happened to her are now living inside her house.
Her new stepbrother Archer D’Ath and his friends Kodiak and Steele soon become the primary targets of her enraged vendetta – we go from there, following this enemies to lovers, RH, absolutely crazy story.
This book is definitely heavy on spice and tension: if you love Reverse Harem, mystery, and suspense that makes your stomach turn because you are so anxious and want to figure out what’s coming next, then Hate is the book for you.
8. Havoc at Prescott High (The Havoc Boys, #1) by C.M. Stunich
17-year-old Bernadette Blackbird lives with her mother, younger sister, and abusive stepfather, and has been basically let down by many people in her life.
But that’s all going to change, when she walks into Prescott high and utters a single word: “HAVOC”.
That’s the one word you don’t utter at Prescott High, not unless you want the ruthless havoc boys (Hael, Aaron, Victor, Oscar, and Callum) to help you, and immediately after, own you. But Bernie is determined to take down the people who ruined her life and get revenge, even if that comes at a price.
Being a bully romance with a reverse harem theme, this book is dark at points, steamy at a whole lot of points, and ultimately intense and suspenseful.
9. Groupie (Rock-Hard Beautiful, #1) by C.M. Stunich
With only five dollars and a crumpled-up concert ticket to her name, Lilith Goode has nowhere to go. One night, she makes a split-second decision to head over to see this popular rock band.
Paxton, Ransom, Copeland, Muse, and Michael: the five members of ‘Beauty in Lies’ end up meeting Lilith on a chance encounter.
To the outsider, Lilith would be seen as a groupie, but something more soon starts happening between them all, as each of the guys starts opening up to her and growing very fond of her.
Before they even realize what’s happening, Lilith joins the team on the tour, leading her to the most intense sexual experiences of her life.
10. Power of Five (Power of Five, #1) Alex Lidell
Lera is a normal girl living near the border of the Mystwood, a magical forest that separates the human world from the land of the immortal fae.
She doesn’t know it yet, but Lera is magically bonded to four fae warriors, all in search of their “fifth”. When they find out that their fifth, to their disbelief, is a mere mortal woman, all hell breaks loose. A mistake, right? But as their relationships progress, River, Coal, Tye, and Shade realize Lera is so much more than they initially believed.
Fated-mates lovers will enjoy how bond develops here. There are also fae politics at work, adding conflict and spice to the already unusual relationship and the consequences of Lera joining the group.
Power of Five is the perfect choice for any new-to-reverse-harem fantasy reader.
